DIVINE ILLUMINATION
Rhythmmm Gallery in New York presents the exhibition DIVINE ILLUMINATION by Ning Zhang, opening in May 2024 in Manhattan. Curated by Tingyi María Huang, the project unfolds through an interdisciplinary dialogue between visual art and ballet, exploring the theme of light as both a material presence and a spiritual force. Through the interaction of abstract and tangible elements, the exhibition reflects on perception, transcendence, and the relationship between the physical and the immaterial.
The works combine visual compositions with performative expression, where light is used to shape space and connect organic and geometric forms. Rather than a purely visual presentation, the exhibition offers an immersive experience that invites viewers to move beyond surface observation into introspection. By integrating artistic mediums, DIVINE ILLUMINATION creates a space for reflection, encouraging audiences to engage with art as a pathway toward awareness and inner transformation.

The exhibition brings together visual art and performance, unfolding around the concept of light as both a material and spiritual force, shaped through an interdisciplinary approach.
The visual language explores the interplay between abstract and tangible forms, where light sculpts space and connects the physical to the immaterial.
In parallel, the experience invites viewers into a process of introspection, awakening a deeper awareness through perception, emotion, and thought.
• By Tingyi •

Beyond time,
when form dissolves
and all returns to stillness,
what remains is not absence—
but traces of light.
Light that once shaped the visible,
now drifts between memory and presence,
between what is felt and what cannot be held.
When distance fades
between the earthly and the unknown,
lost moments resurface—
unspoken, unfinished,
yet quietly alive.
In the end,
time gathers everything into certainty.
What we call an ending
is only a crossing—
a passage through light.
Beyond time,
beyond form,
there remains
the echo of existence—
soft, fleeting,
and luminous.

—— Ning Zhang ——
As an artist, Ning Zhang explores the essence of light as both a material and spiritual force, working across visual art, conceptual practice, and interdisciplinary forms. Her work transcends the boundaries of traditional representation, focusing on the relationship between the visible and the intangible, where light becomes a medium to shape space and perception.
Rooted in a concept-driven approach, her practice moves beyond surface imagery into the realm of ideas and consciousness. Through the interplay of abstract and tangible elements, she constructs immersive experiences that invite introspection and reflection. Her work positions art as a space for transcendence, encouraging viewers to move beyond rational perception and engage with a deeper awareness of existence.
