ART CONCEPT

My photography focuses on New York’s urban structures — bridges, waterfronts, and iconic architectural landmarks. I am drawn to the brief points where light intervenes: reflecting off steel or water, casting architecture into silhouette, or cutting across surfaces in shadow play. In these split seconds, the city’s movement compresses into a still, concentrated form. Rather than documenting activity, I work to isolate these moments of pause within motion — when infrastructure stops being part of the rush and becomes pure geometry. A reflection on the river, a shadow slicing across a beam — these precise alignments reveal a quieter rhythm beneath the city’s pace. Through composition and restraint, I use light as both subject and tool. Each image is a moment held within New York’s constant motion.

ABOUT

Nicky Conti is a New York–based Maltese fine art street photographer and multidisciplinary artist whose work is rooted in the visual language of the city. She photographs the urban landscape through a painterly lens, using natural light and shadow to turn fleeting encounters with architecture and surface into graphic visual compositions. Alongside her photographic practice, she leads Embodied Moments NYC, a self-produced project in which she translates her city images into couture garments and reintroduces them into the urban landscape. The work consolidates photography, garment design and direction, and on-location re-staging into a single artistic process. Originally from Malta and now based in Manhattan, she continues to develop a practice that moves between still image and the embodied memory of the moment captured.
